Mechanism of Action
Disulfiram irreversibly inhibits the enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase. If alcohol is consumed, acetaldehyde accumulates in the blood, causing a highly unpleasant physiological reaction (flushing, nausea, tachycardia) that acts as a deterrent.
