Utilized for hypertension to manage vascular tone and support arterial pressure reduction.
Mechanism of Action
Prazosin selectively inhibits postsynaptic alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, causing relaxation of vascular smooth muscle. This leads to peripheral vasodilation and a reduction in systemic blood pressure without significant reflex tachycardia.
Route of Administration
Oral
Onset Time
30–90 minutes
Duration
10–24 hours
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to prazosin, Severe cardiovascular disorders
Severe Adverse Events
Syncope, Priapism, Tachycardia — requires immediate medical attention
