Utilized for hypertension to manage blood pressure levels and support cardiovascular resistance reduction.
Mechanism of Action
Amlodipine inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. This results in peripheral arterial vasodilation, which lowers systemic vascular resistance and reduces blood pressure and myocardial workload.
Route of Administration
Oral
Onset Time
2–4 hours
Duration
24 hours
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to amlodipine, Severe hypotension, Cardiogenic shock
Severe Adverse Events
Severe hypotension, Worsening angina, Myocardial infarction — requires immediate medical attention
